    My Cousin’s Coven and the Coven of the Veiled Moon

    My Cousin’s Coven is our public-facing educational and service presence. Through the website, Facebook community, Ask a Witch, spellwork support, divination, and educational resources, we provide space for learning, discussion, spiritual guidance, practical help, and engagement with the wider magical community.

    The Coven of the Veiled Moon is our private initiatory Coven. It is structured, intentional, and distinct from MCC’s public community. Applying for membership means seeking a deeper relationship with the Coven itself rather than simply joining the website, Facebook community, or public activities of My Cousin’s Coven.

    Some traditions describe a similar relationship through the terms “Outer Court” and “Inner Court.” Although MCC’s public work serves a comparable educational and community purpose, we do not formally use those titles. We distinguish instead between our public mission, our wider community, and the private initiatory work of the Coven.

    The Novitiate and Initiation

    Those invited to pursue membership begin with a one-year novitiate: one full solar cycle devoted to study, practice, discernment, communication, participation, and the gradual building of a relationship with the Coven.

    Completing the novitiate does not automatically result in initiation. Initiation is a mutual decision made only when both the novice and the Coven believe that continuing together is appropriate.

    Our Practice and Orientation

    The Coven is neo-Pagan in orientation, Wiccan-adjacent in structure and influence, and syncretic in practice. Our work draws from witchcraft, ritual practice, devotional and animistic traditions, ethics, service, divination, spirit work, and continued study.

    Members may approach those traditions differently. The Coven includes people from varied paths and perspectives, including a small non-theistic minority. What matters is the ability to respect the Coven’s identity and work in good faith with people whose understanding of spirituality may not be identical to one’s own.

    Participation and Location

    The Coven developed through three founding locations: the Pacific Northwest, the Midwest, and Sweden. In-person relationships and work continue in those areas, while online communication allows members in different locations to study, discuss, plan, and participate together.

    Living near a founding location is not required. Thoughtful growth into other areas may be considered when it can be supported responsibly and with the approval of the Coven.

    Privacy and Application Review

    Applicants must be at least 18 years old. When applications reopen, information submitted through the form will be used privately for application review, safeguarding, internal Coven administration, and communication concerning the application process.

    We ask applicants to answer honestly and thoughtfully, but no one should provide personal information beyond what they are comfortable sharing for those purposes.

    Although the Coven has only recently begun sharing more of its work online, the Coven itself is not new. Our growing online presence extends an existing commitment to practice, education, service, thoughtful discussion, and meaningful connection within the wider Pagan and magical community.

    The questions below are provided for review while applications are closed. They reflect the kinds of things we want to understand about someone considering the novitiate: their path, experience, expectations, ethics, ability to participate, and reasons for seeking a place within the Coven. There are no perfect answers, and applicants are not expected to know everything before they begin.

    Tell us where you are right now, whether you are new, still exploring, or have practiced for many years. Beginners are welcome; this question is simply meant to help us understand your current starting point, what influences you, and how you presently engage.
    Experience is not required. If you are just beginning, say so plainly and tell us what you have studied, tried, or feel drawn toward.
    The Coven includes people with different devotional, spiritual, philosophical, and non-theistic approaches. Our practice is explicitly Pagan and witchcraft-centered, though some of our ritual language, symbolism, and cultural inheritance reflects Catholic roots. We are not a Christian Coven, and approaches that require Christian exclusivity, evangelism, conversion, or the rejection of Pagan gods and practices are not compatible with our work. If this question applies to you, tell us who or what you honor, work with, study, or feel connected to.
    There is no single correct answer. We are interested in how you understand witchcraft in your own life—as spirituality, practice, craft, relationship, discipline, identity, service, transformation, or something else.
    We understand that spiritual life does not begin in isolation. People may carry inherited traditions, cultural celebrations, family beliefs, religious teachings, meaningful practices, or difficult experiences with faith and community. You are welcome to share what has shaped you, including both what you value and what you may still be healing from. Please share only what feels appropriate.
    The Coven values compassion and service, but we are not exclusively “love and light.” We believe in balance, accountability, justice, protection, boundaries, and, at times, responsible work within shadowed or difficult areas of practice. Tell us how you think about ethical responsibility, consent, proportion, and consequence when deciding whether and how to act. Read our approach to ethics.
    We are simply curious about what brought you to us and what felt meaningful. Your answer may be as simple as being drawn to our colors, imagery, tone, or website, or as strong as feeling a resonating calling or connection to our work.
    Please describe the experience briefly. If not, you may answer “No.”
    If not, you may answer “No.” A yes answer does not automatically prevent consideration; we ask so expectations, commitments, and possible conflicts can be understood clearly.
    Are you able and willing to maintain regular communication and participate actively in Coven discussions and activities?
    The Coven is primarily organized through its online presence. Regular communication matters more than constant availability, and members are not expected to be online at all times.
    You may include your schedule, time zone, technology access, health, caregiving, privacy at home, transportation, work, school, or other responsibilities. Limitations do not automatically disqualify an applicant; we ask so expectations can be realistic. “No” is a fine answer if no concerns.
    How would you expect to participate in the Coven?
    The Coven includes both online and in-person participation. Living near a founding location is not required; what matters most is reliable communication and realistic participation. Choose the option that best reflects how you would expect to take part.
    Share anything that would help us understand how you participate best—such as boundaries, accessibility needs, privacy concerns, or relevant group experiences. You do not need to disclose private details, and you may leave this blank if nothing feels relevant.
    You may use this space to add context, clarify an earlier answer, or share anything you believe would help us understand you more fully. You may answer “Nothing further” if your previous responses cover everything.
    Applications should be a beginning of mutual conversation, not only an evaluation of the applicant. Ask us something you genuinely want to understand about the Coven, its practice, expectations, structure, or community.

    When Applications Reopen

    About the Application Process

    Submitting an application when recruitment is open does not guarantee an interview, invitation to the novitiate, initiation, or membership. An application begins a process of mutual discernment rather than creating an obligation on either side.

    Applications are reviewed thoughtfully rather than automatically. We are a volunteer-run Coven, and response times may vary depending on the number of applications, current Coven responsibilities, and whether we are prepared to support additional novices at that time.

    Applicants are not expected to arrive knowing everything or practicing exactly as we do. We are more interested in honesty, maturity, compatibility, willingness to learn, and the ability to participate in good faith.
